STATEMENT

I’ve always been close to nature, an avid hiker and backpacker. From the Rockies to our coastal ranges, the Himalaya to the Japanese Alps, I’ve done backcountry trips lasting up to two weeks at a time. It bears a strong influence on my work.

My current project focuses on the flora of the Sonoran Desert. It keeps calling me, and I keep returning. There is an alien, otherworldly beauty in that harsh, prickly landscape. I am fascinated by the survival mechanisms of life, and how despite the adversity and challenge all living things face, an exquisite sensuousness prevails. Life can be hard and suck but still be sublime.

I find vitality, hope and resilience in nature and in art. Solace for our transience, and gratitude for what we’ve got.
